WRESTLING: 2021-22 Schedule Released

Head Wrestling Coach Michael Sebaaly is excited to release the North Idaho College wrestling team’s 2021-2022 schedule. The schedule this year is much more full as compared to last, although it is subject to change with additions and/or subtractions as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. NIC would like to ask fans to please make sure to check the site frequently for changes to the schedule.

The team will open up the season with an intra-squad tournament on October 23, as they begin their efforts to bring back a 15th NJCAA National Championship to Coeur d’Alene. The team's first home match of the year is October 29 against NAIA power Montana State University Northern. The Cards will then travel for a quad at Northern Colorado where they will wrestle two NCAA Division I Big-12 wrestling programs in Utah Valley and Northern Colorado. Coach Sebaaly noted: “The November 7 event is a great opportunity for our wrestlers to get noticed, and potentially get recruited into one of the best wrestling conferences in the country.”

On November 19, the Cards will host rival and three-time defending NJCAA champion, Clackamas. The team will close out the semester attending two opens and wrestling a double dual at Cobran University.

Though not on the team schedule, all PNW wrestling fans should be excited to see some great high school action at the North Idaho College campus with the return for the 50th rendition of the Tri-State Tournament on December 17-18.

The wrestling team returns from Christmas break with a trip through Oregon to wrestle Region 18 rivals: Clackamas, Umpqua and Southwest Oregon, January 7 and 8. On January 14 and 15, the team will travel to the NJCAA Coaches Association National Duals hosted at Northeast Oklahoma where the top NJCAA wrestling programs will battle it out over two days for dual-meet supremacy.

On February 12, the Cards will travel to Umpqua Community College in attempt and qualify all 10 wrestlers for the NJCAA National Tournament for the third straight year.  The national tournament is hosted this year by Iowa Western Community College at the Mid-American Center on March 4 and 5. Last year the team finished 6th at nationals and crowned their 55th individual National Champion, Sal Silva (149).
