SOFTBALL: North Idaho takes three of four games over Treasure Valley


Saturday, April 17:

The North Idaho College softball team won both games against the Treasure Valley Chuckers on Saturday, April 17 with scores of 12-4 and 17-8, respectively. Freshman Jadyn Raley-Jones picked up the first win in the circle for the Cardinals on Saturday. The Cardinal’s offense was led by Grace Shimatsu, Taya Escalante, and Kasey Davis. Shimatsu went three-for-four with two singles, a double, and two RBIs. Escalante went three-for-three with two singles, a two-run homerun, and three RBIs. Davis went three-for-four, hitting three singles.

In game two, freshman pitcher, Amanda Curry, led her team to their second win of the day. The Cardinal run-producing offense was led Kasey Davis, Hope Shimatsu, Audrey Walker, and Addison Ribordy. Davis was perfect at the plate going four-for-four with a single, a double, two homeruns and three RBIs. Both Shimastu and Walker went three-for-four with one RBI each. Ribordy earned three RBIs going three-for-four at the plate.

Sunday, April 18:

NIC split with TVCC on Sunday, April 18th. The Cards won the first game 9-8 and lost the second 5-13. In game one, Jadyn Raley-Jones threw the first three innings and Amanda Curry came in during the top of the fourth inning to earn the win. Curry had two strike outs and only one earned run scored against her. Taya Escalante went two-for-three with two singles, a walk, and two RBIs. Kasey Davis went one-for-two, hitting a single and a sacrifice fly to score a run. Aleksya Batoon was a force on both offense and defense, hitting a solo homerun to lead off the second inning and throwing out a runner at home from left field.

In game two, the Chuckers’ bats started off hot, earning them a quick seven-run lead in the first inning. The Cardinals rallied in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to lessen the gap. Taryn Vanderwiel had a perfect game at the plate, going three-for-three with two solo homeruns and a single. Taya Escalante also hit a solo homerun. Addison Ribordy went two-for-three with two doubles. Unfortunately, the Cardinals couldn’t manage to string enough hits together and came up short, earning their first loss of the season.

The Cardinals play again on Thursday, April 22 at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake. Softball will return and play at home on Saturday, April 24 for a doubleheader against Big Bend. The game will start at 12:00 p.m. on Memorial Field.
