SOFTBALL: Cards split with Big Bend

The Cardinals dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 11-10, against Big Bend on Tuesday, May 4. After the bottom of the third inning, the Cardinals were trailing 4-9. NIC’s offense fought back, scoring each inning, to tie up the game 10-10 going into the bottom of the 7th. Taya Escalante went three-for-four at the plate with two singles, one double, one stolen base, and three RBIs. Hope Shimatsu three-for-three at the plate with two singles, one double, one walk, and two RBIs. Unfortunately, two hits in the bottom of the 7th by BBCC gave them the run they needed to take the W.

In game two, freshman pitcher, Jadyn Raley-Jones, led the Cardinals to a 15-5 victory over the Vikings in five innings. The offensive explosion for the Cardinals was led by Maddie Hull, Kasey Davis, Addison Ribordy and Aleksya Batoon. Hull had a perfect game at the plate, going four-for-four with two singles, two doubles, and four RBIs. Davis went three-for-four with two singles, one homerun, and three RBIs. Ribordy went three-for-four with two singles and one double. Batoon went two-for-three with a sac fly, two homeruns, and six RBIs.

The Cardinals are back on the road for their next conference games against Columbia Basin College on Thursday, May 6 in Pasco, Washington.
