Shay Fuson enters her first year as interim head coach at North Idaho College, and her seventh season overall as part of the program.

In her 6 seasons as the assistant coach, Fuson helped lead the Cardinals to two East Region Championships, and a NWAC Championship Title.

Fuson played at NIC under Don Don Willimas from 2006-2008. At NIC Fuson led the team to a first-place NJCAA region 18 championships and a second-place national championship in 2007. She was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American in 2008, and still holds several records at NIC including second in career walks (78), sixth in career home runs (29), and third in career RBIs (121).

At Adelphi University, Fuson was voted the 2011 team MVP and had a team-high batting average of .373. In 2011, she finished first on the team with 35 RBIs and 95 total bases as well as leading that team to the North East-10 conference championship playoffs in 2011. Craig was a NE-10 Second Team All-Conference nominee in 2011.

Fuson graduated from NIC in 2009 and graduated with honors from Adelphi University in 2011.

Fuson resides in Spokane with her husband Ben and their 3-year-old daughter Peyton, and 1-year-old daughter Parker.

Jordyn McCracken enters her second season on the NIC coaching staff as an assistant coach. In her first season of coaching, the Cardinals finished with a record of 38-9-1. The team won the East Region Championship and the NWAC Championship. Jordyn’s primary responsibilities are working with pitchers, hitters, outfield, and recruiting.

A Lake City High School graduate in 2014, she helped win two State Championships with records of 26-0 and 28-0 during the championship seasons. Jordyn earned all-league honors as a senior and was ASB president.

Jordyn attended Utah State University and graduated with a degree in Human Movement Science with a Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis. Jordyn earned Mountain West Scholar-Athlete all four years at Utah State. She earned NFCA All-American honors in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Jordyn was the recipient of the Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award for her four years at Utah State. She also received the Wayne Estes Memorial Award in 2018 for her excellence in leadership, scholarship and citizenship. Jordyn was a part of the pitching staff at Utah State that guided the Aggies to its best season in over 20 years in 2016 with a record of 26-25. In 2017, the Aggies finished the season with a 33-18 overall record and their first postseason appearance in 24 years.


Laura Fierro

After a 20-year hiatus, Laura (Tolzmann) Fierro returns to the NIC softball program as an assistant coach. Fierro was instrumental in building the foundation of the NIC softball program as a member of the inaugural softball team in 1997-1998. While in a Cardinal uniform, Fierro earned SWAC All-Region honors with a batting average of .400. Fierro then went on to teach and coach at Lake City High School. During her time at LCHS, Fierro has coached softball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. She has earned three 5A-state championships in softball and one in 5A soccer as an assistant. Fierro earned the District 1 Softball Coach of the Year honors in 2011 and 2013. She also earned the Idaho State Coaches Association 5A Softball Coach of the Year in 2011. Fierro has 15 years combined high school softball coaching experience during her tenure.

“We are so fortunate to have Laura back in our program. She brings a championship mentality along with her ability to motivate teams to be their best. She is a great fit for our staff,” said, Don Don Williams, NIC Head Softball Coach.

Fierro has a bachelor’s degree in Health Enhancement from Montana State University. She currently is a full-time teacher at LCHS. Fierro is married to Nick Fierro and they have two children, 4-year-old Kendall and 2-year-old Trent.
