After 17 months without a game, North Idaho College’s men’s soccer team hosted the Columbia Basin Hawks on Wednesday, Mar. 31.
In a strong start, the Cardinals frequently got into the attacking third, and in the 17th minute, Will Kokernak earned a penalty kick. Andrew Abalan’s penalty kick was a few inches too wide and banged off the post. With the flow of the game going both ways, the Hawks intercepted the ball in 32nd minute and found Raymundo Curiel in behind the Cardinal defense and went up 1-0, which remained the score at the half.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Cardinals combined well through midfield to find Will Kokernak in the flank. Kokernak played Chris Meza at the far post who barely missed the equalizer. Though both teams continued to create opportunities, it was the Hawks that found the net again in the 78th minute off of Mario Negrete’s goal. The Hawks went away with the 2-0 win.
The Cardinals will host the Community College of Spokane on Saturday, Apr. 10th at 2:15 p.m.
