SOFTBALL: NIC beats Spokane in season opener


The Cardinals defeated Spokane’s Sasquatch 25-16 on Tuesday, Mar. 30th after coming back from a nine-run deficit in the first inning.

The Cardinals took the lead (16-15) in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Addison Ribordy began the inning with a triple, starting a rally in which NIC put nine more runs up on the board. Ribordy went four-for-five at the plate, with a homerun, two triples, a single, and four RBIs. Taryn Vanderwiel also added to the offensive explosion, hitting for the cycle, going four-for-six with six RBIs. Taya Escalante went four-for-five at the plate, with three doubles, one single, one walk, and two RBI’s. In addition, Maddie Hull came up clutch with timely hits, earning her five RBIs. Jadyn Raley-Jones came in to pitch in the middle of the second inning, earning the win in the circle and holding the Sasquatch to just three earned runs against her.

The Cardinals are scheduled to play NCAA Division II Humboldt State University, on Thursday, April 1st at Coeur d’Alene’s Memorial Field at 2:00 p.m.
