MEN'S BASKETBALL: 2020-21 Season Preview

9/17/20

Despite the unforeseen academic and athletic circumstances COVID has placed on North Idaho College, NIC men’s basketball is off to a great start. NIC student-athletes reported to campus at the end of August; ready and eager to start their college careers both academically as well as athletically. The Cards’ men’s basketball staff are extremely excited for the upcoming year. Head Coach Corey Symons and Assistant Coach George Swanson are anxiously waiting to get their athletes in the gym and get them ready for the upcoming season. The student-athletes are off to a great start academically and excited to be on campus working closely with their academic professors and staff.

The accomplishments of the 2019-2020 season brought a lot of recruiting success for our sophomore class. NIC men’s basketball was able to move 10 sophomores on to four-year institutions, including six to NCAA Division I, three to NCAA Division II, and one to an NAIA school. With the mass exodus of players, the coaching staff had a lot of work to do to fill the roster for this upcoming season. The coaching staff is excited about the returning players as well as the incoming freshman.

Returning for the Cardinals is Terrance Marigney as well as red-shirts DaMaruis Brown, Akeyse Rice, Jishai Miller, and transfer Griffen Effenberger. The incoming class is loaded with talent including Division I transfer, Delveion Jackson (UC Davis), as well as high school standouts Cooper Dewitt (Pasco, WA), Brendon Johnson (Livingston, MT), Julius Mims (Billings, MT), Peter Erickson (Federal Way, WA), Aaron Von Bruck (Seattle, WA), Darius Mason-Robertson (Pasadena, CA), Gavin Thompson (Bronx, NY), and Karson Lloyd (Bancroft, ID).

The Cardinal players and staff are excited for the upcoming season to get underway, and are expecting 2020-21 to be another exciting and successful Cardinal season. The team looks forward to seeing all their fans and supporters at Christianson Gymnasium once the season begins.
