WRESTLING: 2019-20 Season Highlights


The NIC wrestling team finished the 2019-2020 season with a record of 18-5. The Cardinals were nationally ranked throughout the season, with 3rd place in the nation as their highest ranking on February 7th.

The Cardinals took on Clackamas, the defending national champions on two different occasions this past season. The first encounter was on Nov. 22 when NIC hosted a tri-meet with Clackamas Community College and Northwest College. The Cardinals defeated Northwest College 43-8, and went back and forth with Clackamas. The match against Clackamas saw six lead changes and the final match of the night favored the Cougars, 22-20. The second time the Cards took on the Clackamas Cougars was in Oregon City on Jan. 24, where the match ended in a tie (21-21) with the tiebreaker favoring Clackamas (2 pins CCC, 1 pin NIC).
North Idaho College finished in 4th place at the NJCAA Coaches Duals, qualifying 10 wrestlers for Nationals. The ten qualifiers are listed below along with their respective weight class.

Of the 10 qualifiers, there were four wrestlers representing North Idaho College that were named All-Americans at the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament. Freshman Andrew Lucero (125) placed 4th in the national tournament, while freshman teammate Sal Silva (149) placed 3rd in the national tournament Hunter Gregerson placed 8th in the national tournament, making him a two-time All-American. Cohle Feliciano placed 7th in the national tournament, while he also received the Bruce Traphagen Award for the most falls in the least amount of time. Feliciano had five falls in 8 minutes and 35 seconds.

Both Sal Silva and Cohle Feliciano are returning All-Americans for the Cards as we head into 2020-21 season. Around the end of August, NIC will release all of this year’s new recruits.
