SOFTBALL: Three Cardinals moving on

Sarah Williams signs with Westcliff University
Three of NIC’s softball players have signed letters of intent to play on at four-year colleges next year. Makayla Marshall, a freshman middle infielder, has signed to play division 1 softball at Southern Utah University. At SUU she will be coached by former NIC softball head coach, Don Don Williams. When asked to reflect on her time at NIC, Marshall said, “I really enjoyed my short time at NIC. The coaches and the players were wonderful and pushed me to do better. I am disappointed that we did not have the opportunity to play league, but I look forward to learning from Don Don and moving on to SUU to challenge myself at the next level.”

Sarah Williams has signed to go play at Westcliff University, an NAIA school in Irvine, California. Sarah Williams, a sophomore shortstop for the Cardinals, was named an East Region, Second Team Infielder after her performance in the 2019 season. In reflection of her career at NIC, Sarah said, “Though my time at NIC was short lived, I am grateful for every second. I will never forget the unique experience I was lucky enough to have.” Sarah looks forward to this next chapter at Westcliff and the California weather. “Just like NIC, I am looking forward to making history at Westcliff. I’m also excited to not have to walk through feet of snow to get to morning workouts.”

Andrea Hoey, sophomore pitcher at NIC, has signed to go play at Benedictine University Mesa. Benedictine University Mesa is an NAIA school located in Mesa, Arizona. When asked about her time at NIC and why she chose Benedictine, she responded which much adoration for NIC and excitement toward her future. “My time at NIC was unforgettable. NIC showed me what it’s like to be part of something bigger than myself. NIC was full of love and support, and I chose to go to Benedictine University because I felt the same family aspect there as I did here. Roll Cards.”

Although they will be missed, the coaching staff at NIC could not be prouder of these three players for continuing on with their softball careers at the next level.
