MEN'S BASKETBALL: Big second half propels Cardinals

The Northwest Athletic Conference’s second-ranked North Idaho College (14-1) shook off the determined Treasure Valley Community College Chukars on Saturday, Jan. 4 with a final score of 93-70. This win moved the Cards to 2-0 record in the Eastern Division of the NWAC. The Cards lead just 39-38 at the end of the first half, but switched to a man-to-man defense and promptly went on a 25-5 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to gain control of the game. The Cardinal defense, like the offense, came to life holding the Chukars (7-6, 0-2) to 35% field goal shooting while the Cards shot 58% themselves.

Sophomores James Carlson and Christian Guess led the way with 16 and 15 points respectively and each grabbed seven rebounds. Other Cardinals in double figures included sophomore Nate Pryor with 14, sophomore Yusuf Mohamed with 13, and sophomore Joey Naccarato with 12.

NIC is back on the road this Saturday Jan. 11, traveling to Walla Walla Community College to face the Warriors (6-8, 0-2) in a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
