WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lady Cards win two after holiday break

The NIC Lady Cards defeated Lethbridge College and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology on Dec. 27 and 28 respectively to boost their record to 6-5. On Friday, Dec. 27, former NIC National Champion Deanna Dotts brought the Kodiaks down from Lethbridge to arrive home to Coeur d'Alene and receive a warm welcome and a well-attended game. NIC had four starters score in double digits to speed away to a 82-64 victory. Alex Carlton led the way with six steals and 22 points; five of her makes were three-pointers. Sophomore Anna Schrade added 19 points, freshman Rilee Mangun scored 18, and sophomore Halle Eborall added 10.

Saturday afternoon NIC faced SAIT from Calgary and pulled away with a convincing 56-35 victory. The Lady Cardinals used intense defensive pressure to keep the feisty Southern Alberta team shooting to just 26%. Alex Carlton again led the way with 17 points and Rilee Mangun came up strong again with 12 points.

NIC opens NWAC Eastern region play at home on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m. home at the Christianson Gymnasium against Big Bend Community College from Moses Lake.
