MEN’S SOCCER: Field ruled unplayable in last minute of the match

The Cardinals traveled to Walla Walla on Saturday, Oct. 26 with two games remaining in the season. The Walla Walla Community College Warriors put one away first with Erick Perez chipping NIC goalkeeper David Ramirez in the 23rd minute. Ramirez had three saves in the first half including a big save on a one-on-one late in the half.

NIC started the second half dangerous early and often. In the first 12 minutes of the second half, the Cards hit the post twice and Walla Walla goalkeeper Antonio Campos tipped Ethan Williams’s shot wide of the corner. By the end of the second half, the Cardinals had drawn even on the total shots without tying the score.

With just over a minute remaining, the men had a free-kick from the right side of the field and looked for Zack Feierfeil at the far post. As Campos pulled the ball out of the air and Feierfeil landed, Feierfeil ran into the post and broke the goal. The referee crew ruled the field unplayable and the match ended 1-0, Warriors’ win. Feierfeil is nursing some bruised or cracked ribs and is unlikely for the Cardinals’ final match Wednesday, Oct. 30 on the road at Community Colleges of Spokane. Kickoff is 6:15 p.m.
