MEN’S SOCCER: NIC host pair of matches ending with 7-0 and 0-0

On Friday, Oct. 11, the Cardinals got on the board in the 10th minute against Treasure Valley Community College during the Homecoming match-up. After defending a corner, Shane Watkins received a ball with his feet and some space in front of him. As he reached the midfield line, he played it in front of Noah Dreves. Dreves took a touch forward and diagonal then slotted it home for the early lead. Minutes later, Kai Flugel played a ball to the far post and Dreves scored his second of the match. In the 31st minute, Will Kokernak headed home a cross from Ethan Williams. Flugel then put one in the net after combining with Greyden Lee to end the half. Lee had another assist to Alwayne Anglin in the 57th minute and both Bob Green and Tyler Moore scored unassisted goals in the 7-0 win. Isaiah Damschen recorded the shutout.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, the Cardinals found Greyden Lee’s head twice in the first half and Jacob Luhrs behind the Blue Mountain Community College defense in the final minutes of the game but failed to put one away. In the end, the Cardinals played to a 0-0 draw with the Timberwolves.

Both teams put six shots on goal, with Damschen making six saves for the Cardinals as Dalton Mauzay made six saves for the Timberwolves. Combined, the programs committed 43 fouls in a physical, rhythmless game. The Cardinals are one point behind Wenatchee Valley College for a playoff spot in the standings.

The men travel to the Yakima Valley College Knights on Saturday, Oct. 16 for their next league match.
