VOLLEYBALL: Cards take down defending NWAC champs

The North Idaho College volleyball team traveled to Spokane Falls Community College last Friday, Oct. 4 to take on the No. 1 ranked Sasquatches. The Cardinals led the first set until the last five points when Spokane Falls found a way to finish and pull away to win set one.

The Cardinals bounced back well, second-set beating Spokane by five. Once again, third set Spokane delivered early and took off. The Cardinals seemed to have one error after the next and found themselves down by 10 at one point in the third set. The Cardinals slowly started to get the moment back, but were down too far to get the win, losing the third set.

With the momentum on their side, the Cardinals finished sets four and five with a win, beating the defending NWAC champions. Chloe Knudson led the team with 15 kills. Kynzey Mitzel had 40 digs and Hokulea Vargas had 41 assists.

“What an awesome game for both teams. It was so fun to watch the girls compete and put everything they had out there on the floor. Our crowd was amazing, we had over 65 student athletes there cheering us on which, made the game so much more exhilarating,” said NIC Head Volleyball Coach Kelsey Stanley. “Chloe Knudson had an outstanding game for us. She was a key player when we needed her and she delivered every set for us.”

The Cardinals are now leading the East conference with a 6-0 record and 17-3 overall.

Final Scores: 23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 15-9
