WOMEN’S SOCCER: Walla Walla stuns NIC in final minutes

For the first 60 minutes of the women’s soccer game against Walla Walla Community College, the game was played without a goal scored. In the 61st minute, Maya Lewis crossed a ball that found Sofia Schnepf on the back post for a header goal making the score 1-0. The score lasted for 20 minutes when the game took a turn for the worst for the NIC. A goal in the 83rd minute and a goal in the 86th minute by Walla Walla saw the one goal lead turn into the girls being behind by one goal.

After giving up the two goals and losing the lead, the Cardinals fought hard to try and score the equalizer. Shots by Autumn Stewart and Cidney Bauwens just missed going in the net by inches. Keeper Kaysha Bailey came up with five saves in the goal.

NIC will travel to Pasco, Wash., on Saturday Sept. 28, to take on Columbia Basin College. Columbia Basin currently sits in second place in the East Region.
