MEN’S SOCCER: Cardinals turn the tables on Warriors

A thrilling 1-0 home victory for the Cardinals sent the Walla Walla Warriors to the showers Wednesday evening at Eisenwinter Field. NIC (4-3-2) played well and created multiple goal-scoring opportunities while also fighting off a persistent attack by the Warriors (3-2-4). The last meeting between the two programs saw Walla Walla Community College defeat the Cardinals 4-0, leaving tension between the two sides prior to the Wednesday match.

After an evenly fought first half and the score remaining 0-0, Jacob Luhrs headed a ball down to Alwayne Anglin to put the Cardinals up 1-0 in the 72nd minute. The Warriors pushed hard to equalize, but they failed to heat things up. NIC closed the game with 3 points and the shutout.

NIC will be on the road this weekend, heading to Pasco, Wash., to take on Columbia Basin College on Saturday Sept. 28 at 2:15 p.m.
