VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals sweep Warriors at home after slow start

The NIC Cardinals volleyball team took on the Walla Walla Warriors at home last Friday, Sept. 20. The Cardinals started out slower than they have all season resulting in Cardinals trailing to a seven-point difference early on. With an immediate timeout, the Cardinals were able to regroup and one point by one point took the lead 16-14. Cardinals finished by sweeping the Warriors in three.

“It was great to see the girls not give up after being down seven points at one point in the game. They came together and fought for every point and were able to finish with a win. Though it was great to see them come back it would have been nice to see them start strong from the beginning. It looks like that maybe something we will have to work on moving forward,” said NIC Volleyball Head Coach Kelsey Stanley.

Freshman Journey Tupea had a great game with 6 kills and 10 digs. Hokulea Vargas, a freshman from Spokane, delivered 32 assists.
Cardinals (14-3) travel to take on Yakima Valley College (5-16) Friday, Sept. 27.

Match scores: 25-18, 25-19, 25-12
