WOMEN'S SOCCER: Chavez leads Cardinals to win

Berenice Chavez scored two goals to lead NIC to a 3-0 victory over the Wenatchee Valley Knights in their league opener at home Wednesday afternoon. Chavez scored both goals in the first 25 minutes of the game. Her first goal came when she stole a pass in the NIC attacking end of the field dribbled a couple of times into the penalty area and passed the ball into the net. Her next goal occurred in the 23rd minute. Sydney Moore used a back heel pass to play Chavez through the backline of the Knights where she finished with another composed shot. Autumn Stewart finished off the scoring for the Cardinals in the second half. Taylor Lance and Halley Marschall had good games in defense winning balls and hounding the Wenatchee forwards keeping the shooting opportunities to a minimum.

The Cardinals move on to what should be a tough match on Saturday at noon against Yakima Valley College. The game will be played at Eisenwinter Field on the NIC campus.
