MEN'S SOCCER: Cardinals defeat Dolphins on the road

Ethan Williams put the Cardinals up 1-0 with his first collegiate goal Friday at Shoreline.  Greyden Lee secured a ball in the penalty area and dumped it to Shane Watkins.  Watkins then found Williams slipping through the back line, and Williams took a touch at speed and slotted it home in the 41st minute.  The Cardinals attempted eight shots in the half and limited Shoreline’s attempts to two.  With a 1-0 lead, the men continued to get into the Dolphin penalty area.  Jaden Eder played a dangerous ball into the box from right back, and Shane Watkins and Noah Dreves both got to the endline for cutbacks, but the scored remained unchanged.  With little time remaining, the Dolphins floated the ball into the Cardinals penalty area and connected on a header.  Max Warnell made a diving save to tip the ball over the crossbar.  Moments later, the Cardinals worked the ball up the left sideline with Kai Flugel connecting with Mac Stultz.  Stultz beat a Shoreline center back horizontally and tucked the ball in the lower right corner in the 88th minute to extend the lead.  The Cardinals came home with the 2-0 win to improve their record to 2-1.  They outshot the Dolphins 21 to 5, and Max Warnell recorded his second straight shutout.

The Cardinals travel to Oregon for games against Rogue and Lane on September 7th and 8th.
