WOMEN'S SOCCER: NIC opens with a win and a loss

The North Idaho College Women's Soccer team played its opening games of the season in the NWAC Friendlies in Seattle, Wash. Their opening game on Thursday had a successful result winning 4-0 against Lane CC or Eugene, Ore. The first half started with Lane controlling the ball in the first 20 minutes. Then NIC's defense conceded a penalty kick. Sophomore goal keeper Kaysha Bailey saved the shot and this seemed to light a fire in the Cardinals. Toward the end of the half, sophomore Sofia Schnepf scored two goals to put NIC ahead for good. In the second half, the Cardinals started dominating possession, creating numerous chances. Demi Randall, a freshman from Lewiston, scored her first goal as a Cardinal and Cid Bauwens, a sophomore center back from Boise, scored off a corner kick to round out the scoring.

Friday's match up saw NIC face off with Whatcom CC out of Bellingham, Wash. This match was close all the way, but saw Whatcom come out on top with a 2-1 win. Schnepf scored her 3rd goal of the season when she intercepted a pass to an Orca defender and then calmly slotted a right footed pass into the goal. Whatcom really picked up their intensity in the second half creating several chances and scoring on two of them to overcome the Cardinals.

NIC's next match is Sunday, September 1st at 11am at Eisenwinter Field on the NIC campus.
