WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lady Cardinals beat Spokane

The North Idaho College women’s basketball team fought through playing four games in eight days to wear down the Community Colleges of Spokane in a 69-57 home victory on Wednesday, February 20.  Freshman, Keara Simpson, continued to be a force inside finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds.  Freshman, Alivia Williams, added 18 points.  Sophomore, Heidi Sellmann, narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and 8 rebounds.  NIC shot 80% from the free throw line connecting on 20-25 attempts.

The win came on Sophomore Night which was also NIC’s last home game of the season.  Sophomores Zosha Krupa and Heidi Sellmann were honored before the men’s game.  Coach Chris Carlson made the following comments during the ceremony:

"Zosha Krupa is to be commended on a strong two-year career for the Lady Cardinals.  Zoey has played in 53 games while contributing to 37 victories.  Zoe brought in her winning attitude and sharp shooting mentality to NIC from Sitka, Alaska and has hit over 30 three pointers over the past two seasons.  Her versatility has proven valuable as she has been called upon for special defensive responsibilities and has played multiple positions for the Lady Cardinals.  Zoe will graduate this spring and currently maintains a 3.34 GPA.  She will continue her basketball and educational opportunities at a four-year school while pursuing marine biology.  Bigger than basketball and her studies, Zoe is an outstanding person."

"Heidi Sellman has been a tremendous blessing to our team.  Not only has she started every game this season but is averaging 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.  She is second in the entire NWAC in free throw percentage and third in field goal percentage.  Her consistent and positive focus has been a stabilizing factor for our freshmen heavy squad.  Heidi currently holds an impressive 4.0 GPA while taking many biology, physics, and upper level chemistry courses.  We look forward to following Heidi’s future basketball and career endeavors as the sky’s the limit for this talented young lady."

The Lady Cardinals (19-7, 9-5) travel to Yakima Valley College on Saturday, February 23.  Tip-off is at 2:00 PM and is followed by the men’s game.  Both games can be viewed at
