MEN'S BASKETBALL: Win secures share of East Region title

Sophomore RayQuan Evans led six players in double figures with 24 points as North Idaho College (24-2, 13-0) rolled to a 100-69 victory at Walla Walla (16-10, 10-3) Monday afternoon in a make-up game postponed because of a snowstorm February 9th.

Up 40-29 at the half, NIC turned on the jets, outscoring Walla Walla 60-40 in the final 20 minutes to clinch at least a share of the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region title. Evans, also added 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals. His backcourt teammates, freshman Phillip Malatare and freshman Nate Pryor, also came up big, adding 16 and 12 points respectively. Malatare completed his double-double by grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Jarod Greene, the NWAC field-goal percentage leader at 72%, continued that trend by hitting 4 of 6 shots for his 10 points. Cardinal reserves continue to be a major strength as freshman James Carlson connected on 5 of 6 shots for 14 points while grabbing 5 rebounds and Sophomore Alphonso Anderson added 10 points and 8 rebounds as the Cards outrebounded the Warriors 48-34.

Prior to Monday afternoon’s road victory, North Idaho had never beaten Walla Walla in the dome, a fact not lost on 5th year Head Coach Corey Symons. “Coach Reinland always has his guys read to play. We’ve struggled here in the past so this was a big win for us.”

The Cardinals last regular-season home game is this Wednesday night against Spokane (18-8, 9-4) on Sophomore Night. Tip-off at 7:30pm. If you can’t make it to Christianson Gymnasium, check out the action on our You Tube page at
