WOMEN'S SOCCER: George shows the Cardinals the way

Freshmen Sahkora George scored two goals in the second half propelling the Cardinals to a win over the Knights of Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee. In the 60th minute of the game Sofia Schnepf took the ball forward from her left back position. About 20 yards across the midfield stripe she hit an early cross toward the far post where George was standing and George headed the ball into upper right corner of the net. About 8 minutes later, George got her second when a corner kick by Kaleigh Haworth was deflected by the Knight's goalie toward the top of the penalty area. George calmly punched the ball back through the crowded box and into the goal. The icing on the cake came with 7 minutes remaining: Riley Klauss picked up a loose ball at the top of the center circle, Klauss passed it to Autumn Stewart on the left flank, Stewart took a touch and played it to Melissa Decker at the "D", Decker took a touch to set up her shot and ripped a half-volley into the upper left side of the goal where a diving WVC goalie could only get her fingertips to the ball.

This win, coupled with a CC of Spokane loss at Yakima Valley moves the Cardinals into a tie at the top of the standings of the NWAC East Region. NIC faces Yakima Valley College this Saturday, 12 noon, at home on Eisenwinter Field.
