WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cardinals take care of business in Oregon

North Idaho College played the two Oregon teams, Blue Mountain CC and Treasure Valley CC, in the East Region of the NWAC this past weekend winning both games with shutouts. Facing Blue Mountain CC on cool, breezy Friday afternoon the Cardinals came to play taking 24 shots and putting 13 of them on goal. The offensive attack eventually wore down the Timberwolf defense and Sydney Moore headed a Sahkora George cross into goal at the 27 minute mark. About 6 minutes later Melissa Decker intercepted a pass about 30 yards out on the left side of the field and chipped the BMCC goalie to increase the lead to 2-0. About midway through the second half Zoe Lee added an insurance goal, but no more goals were forthcoming and the final score was 3-0 for NIC.

NIC continued their aggressive play against Treasure Valley CC on Saturday winning 4-0. Lee opened the scoring just 6 minutes into the game receiving a pass from Linnea Pretzer that split the defense and dribbling until she got the keeper to start moving off her line and then Lee slotted the shot past the goalie. 26 minutes into the second half, Pretzer hit a corner kick from the right corner connecting with Cidney Bauwens who shot, but it was blocked by a defender. The rebound bounced straight to Moore who was able to hit the ball into goal. While the Cardinals controlled the play in the second half no goals occurred until late in the game. Pretzer got her own goal when a ball bounced to her on the right sized about 25 yards from goal. She took a touch and then ripped a left-footed shot just under the crossbar. Less than 2 minutes later, Kaleigh Haworth found George about 30 yards out in the center of the field with a pass. George spun her defender and recognized the TVCC keeper was off her line so she chipped the goalie for the final tally of the game.

"I was telling the players that this was a business trip. Both TVCC and BMCC are toward the bottom of the region standings, but we can't look past them, we have to take care of the business of beating them before thinking about the next game and that is just what they did," stated Head Coach Dan Hogan. "We know we're playing our game when we have different players scoring goals and just looking at the box score shows you we played well!"

The Cardinals are in second place in the NWAC East Region, 3 points behind CC of Spokane and 1 point ahead of Walla Walla CC. NIC travels to Wenatchee on Wednesday to play Wenatchee Valley College.
