Cardinals Honored at North Idaho Sports Hall of Fame


Cardinals Head Golf Coach Russell Grove was honored as the College Coach of the Year at the North Idaho Sports Awards banquet on Saturday, April 14th at the Coeur d’Alene Inn - Best Western Plus. Former Cardinal basketball player Brayon Blake was recognized as the Male College Athlete of the Year after a stellar senior season at the University of Idaho.

Grove coached the NIC Men's Golf team to the NWAC Championship last spring, while winning the NWAC regular season titles for both the men and women. Grove was also recognized as the NWPGA Golfer of the Year in 2017. Grove beat out fellow Cardinal Coaches Corey Symons (Men's Basketball) and Kelsey Stanley (Volleyball), and four year school nominees Abid Akbar, UI Tennis, Jeremiah Robbins, LCSC  Baseball, and Don Verlin, UI Men’s Basketball.

Blake , an NJCAA All-American for the Cardinals in 2016, earned 1st team All Big Sky honors in his final season, averaging 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Blake led the Big Sky in rebounding, helping the Vandals finish with a 22-9 record. Cardinal athletes Levi Perry (Wrestling), and RayQuan Evans (Basketball) were also nominated for College Male Athlete of the Year.

Lady Cardinal athletes Kennedy Anderson-Softball, Madie Brown- Golf, and Kayla Neumann - Volleyball were nominated for Female College Athlete of the Year. The award went to Vandals basketball standout Mikayla Ferenz.

The North Idaho Sports Awards sponsors the North Idaho Hall of Fame and recognizes college and high school teams and individuals on an annual basis.
