NIC to host NJCAA regional wrestling tournament Feb. 10


2019 West District Tournament PosterNorth Idaho College will host the NJCAA West District Wrestling Tournament Sunday, Feb. 10, at Christianson Gymnasium on the NIC main campus.

The five-team tournament will begin at 10 a.m., with the championship finals expected to begin at about 2 p.m. The tournament will run continually from the quarterfinals to the finals without a break, using two mats. The West District tournament consists of wrestling programs from NJCAA Region 18, including NIC, Clackamas Community College, Southwestern Oregon Community College, Highline College, and second-year program Umpqua Community College.

Three of the teams in the district tournament are ranked in the latest NJCAA poll, released on Feb. 4, with Clackamas ranked No. 1, NIC ranked No. 8, and Southwestern Oregon ranked No. 17. The West District tournament is the qualifier for individual wrestlers for the NJCAA National Wrestling Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 1-2, 2019.

Tournament entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students with a valid ID. Children under 10 are admitted free.
