MEN'S BASKETBALL: Complete game victory by the Cardinals

The pre-game focus by North Idaho College Monday afternoon against Columbia Basin was defense. Passing grades abound in a 124-50 victory at Christianson Gymnasium.  The Hawks 50-point total was 21 points under the #1 ranked defensive season average of 71. Offensively, the Cardinals shot 67% from the field to hit the century mark for the 6th-straight NWAC game with 6 players in double figures.

Freshman Emmitt Taylor III came out firing against the Hawks (4-14,1-5), hitting 8 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 24 points, 21 in the first half alone.

The stat sheet was loaded with fine individual efforts. Freshman guard Nate Pryor was 10 of 12 from the field for his 22 points adding 5 assists and 2 steals. Freshman guard Phillip Malatare was solid with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals while sophomore guard RayQuan Evans added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.  Others in the double-digit parade included sophomores Jared Greene and Alphonso Anderson. Greene, the NWAC’s field-goal shooting leader at 71% was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field and 2 for 2 at the strip for 14 points, adding 6 rebounds and 3 blocks to his totals.

Anderson, coming off back-to-back, double-double games, continued his high level of play. The “Big-Guard” tossed in 14 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots, all in just 18 minutes of playing time.

So, now it’s showtime with the Eastern Conference’s two top teams meeting this Wednesday night at Spokane Community College, N 1810 Greene St, Spokane, WA.  The Cardinals (17-2,6-0) take on the host Sasquatch (15-5,6-1) at 7:30pm. Catch all the action live on our You Tube channel at
