MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals win NWAC opener

North Idaho College opened defense of their NWAC title with a 101-65 victory at Big Bend CC Wednesday night.

Sophomore Alphonso Anderson led 5 players in double figures with game-highs in points(28) and rebounds(12) in his best effort of the year. Speaking of effort, Freshman James Carlson came off the bench for a career-high 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Sophomore Ray Quan Evans tossed in 13 points to go along with 8 assists while Freshmen Phillip Malatare and Nate Pryor each add 10.

But, the real story in the contest was the Cardinal’s top-ranked defense. NIC, held Big Bend(10-2,0-1), the NWAC’s 3rd-leading scoring team to just 65 points, 31 under their season average of 96.

“I was really happy with our D tonight,” said Head Coach Corey Symons. “When we lock things down it really opens things up for the offense.”

The Cardinals(12-2,1-0) return home Saturday afternoon to face Treasure Valley(3-8,1-0) at 4pm. If you can’t make it to Christianson Gymnasium, watch the game live on our You Tube Channel at
