WOMEN’s SOCCER: Ferris scores in OT to propel Cardinals to NWAC Quarter-final

10/31/2018

NIC ground out an overtime win against Portland CC on a damp Halloween afternoon on Eisenwinter Field. The Cardinals went after the Panthers from the start, but with PCC putting at least 6 players in the box to defend it was difficult for NIC to get a good shot on frame. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

The second half started much as the first half ended. NIC had good shots from Linnea Pretzer, Zoe Lee and Kora George. Autumn Stewart dribbled up the left flank several times but her crosses were cleared by the Portland defense. As NIC presses forward PCC was able to counter, but Kaysha Bailey was able to stuff the 1v1 she faced and the other chances were squashed by Emmaleah Allen and Cidney Bauwens. The second half also ended tied 0-0.

On to overtime! Cardinal Head Coach, Dan Hogan commented, “We we’re creating so many chances it was just a matter of time before we scored.” In the 6th minute of overtime the ball ended up at the feet of NIC midfielder, Ellory Ferris. She was about 25 yards from goal. She calmly touched the ball to her left and she bent a perfect shot into the left side of goal to break the stalemate and send the Cardinals into the NWAC Quarter-finals. “It was an awesome goal,” said Hogan.

NIC will travel to Port Angeles, Wash. to play the North Region champion, Peninsula College, on Saturday, Nov. 3rd at 5pm. The Cardinals faced the Pirates early in the preseason and lost in a 2-1 battle played on Peninsula’s home field. The Pirates will Live Stream the game.
