MEN'S SOCCER: Losses take the Cardinals out of the playoff race

The men lost to Columbia Basin and Walla Walla this week and were eliminated from playoff contention.  On Wednesday in Pasco, the Hawks took a 2-0 lead to halftime on goals by Joel Valle and Uriel Mendoza, Mendoza’s goal coming on a penalty kick.  On the other side of halftime, Juan Cruz made it 3-0 in the 49th minute.  The Cardinals finally got some momentum for an interval, and Creed McKinnon set up Japheth Taylor for his first collegiate goal from 40 yards after McKinnon picked off a pass from the Hawks’ goalkeeper.  Unfortunately, that was all the Cardinals could muster and went down 3-1 on the day.

On Saturday, the men hosted Walla Walla and gave up a goal in the 4th minute by Edwin Romero but weathered a few early chances and went into the half down 1-0.  The early going of the second half got pretty ugly though with the Warriors putting three in the net in the 48th minute, the 50th, and the 58th.  Miguel Rodriguez scored two, and Lupe Barajas had one.  The Cardinals close out the season on Wednesday with Spokane at home at 3:15pm.
