VOLLEYBALL: NIC wins Lower Columbia Crossover


NIC traveled to Longview, Wash. this past weekend for the Lower Columbia Crossover tournament. The Cardinals had to fight through some adversity, but found a way to come up on top.

The Cardinals met up with Big Bend Saturday morning. Big Bend CC got off to a good start and NIC struggled getting momentum and energy going. With a few adjustments the Cardinals slowly started to come together as a team and began to make smarter choices. Big Bend started getting tired and that’s when the Cardinals started to get moving. NIC met Lower Columbia CC in the semi-finals. Lower Columbia had a wicked serve that hurt the Cardinals in the second set and NIC wasn't able to run the offense at all. The Cardinals' ball control slowly improved each set and they were able to run away with a great win. The Cardinals' defense was the key this game. The back row dug many good hits and NIC was able to win the points. The set scores:






After a loss on Friday to Pierce College the Cardinals were excited to get another shot at them. The NIC players got off to a great start offensively with their serving taking Pierce out of system immediately. North Idaho held it together down the stretch to win the championship. It was a good weekend overall. We made many leaps of growth and many girls stepped up, playing new positions very well. Our defense was very strong today and the reason we were able to go home as champs,”  stated Head Coach Kelsey Stanley
