NWAC Basketball Playoffs Begin


The NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament begins on Thursday, March 8, in Everett, Washington, hosted by Everett Community College. The women's tournament will be held on Thursday and Friday, followed by the men's tournament on Saturday and Sunday.  The Lady Cardinals (10-6, 19-9 overall), the 3rd seed from the East Region, will open against Lower Columbia College, the 2nd seed from the West Region at 12:00PM on Thursday.

NIC has faced LCC twice this season, winning 74-63 on December 17 in the Clackamas NWAC Crossover tournament, and  defeating LCC on their homecourt in the Lower Columbia tournament on December 29. Lower Columbia (12-2, 22-8 overall) is ranked #8 in the final NWAC poll, and led by 1st team West Region selections Tywanna Abbott (15ppg), and Cherita Daugherty (8.2 points per game & 7.1 rebounds), and 2nd team selection Shanay Dotson (11.4 points per game).

A win by the Lady Cardinals and they will face the winner of North #1 Bellevue College and South #4 Mt. Hood at 4:00pm on Friday, March 9. All tournament games can be viewed on the NWAC website at, The NWAC Basketball Championship tournament link is on the NIC website 

The #5 ranked NIC Men will play the final game of the men's tournament opening day on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00PM. The Cardinals, are seeded #3 in the East Region, and will also face Lower Columbia College, the #2 seed from the West. NIC (11-5, 21-8 overall) tied for second in the NWAC East but lost the tiebreaker with the Community Colleges of Spokane.  Lower Columbia (12-2, 20-8 overall) is led by 1st team West Region guards Brandon Cotton (14.6ppg), and Spencer Sweet (16.9ppg). 

The winner of the NIC men's contest will face the winner of West #1 Everett CC, the host institution, and South #4 Chemeketa CC, at 8:00PM on Sunday, March 11. All tournament games can be viewed on the NWAC website at, The NWAC Basketball Championship tournament link is on the NIC website 

The NWAC tournament Final Four will be held the following weekend at Everett CC on March 17-18.
