SOFTBALL: NIC opens 3 and 1 at NWAC Crossover in Richland


On Saturday the Cardinals traveled to Richland, Washington to open up the 2018 season at the NWAC Crossover. The Cardinals opened up against Centralia Community College with a 10-1 victory. Sophomore Kayla Moore earned her first win of the season allowing only 2 hits and 1 run. Sophomore Mckenzie Schaller went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s, and Freshman Ashlyn Winn went 3-3 with 1 RBI.

In game two, the Cardinals beat Olympic Community College in 5 innings with a score of 10-1. Freshman Madi Mott earned her first win of college career.  Mott posted 5 strike outs in 3 innings, and allowed only 1 hit. Offensively Mott went 3-3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s. Freshman Bailey Cavanagh hit a 2 run home run her first at bat of her college career.

Sunday the Cardinals opened up against Southwestern Oregon Community College with a tough 5-9 loss. Freshman Madi Mott  threw 6.5  innings with 10 strike outs on the day.

The Cardinals bounced back in game two and took on Chemeketa Community College, a 16-4 victory. Freshman Madi Mott went 3-3 at the plate with 2 doubles, 1 home run and 4 RBI’s. Freshman Bailey Cavanagh went 3-4 with 2 doubles, 1 home run and 3 RBI’s.  Sophomore Kayla Curtan had also had a solo home run in the game. Sophomore Kayla Moore earned her second win of the season, with a save by Sophomore Audrey Seipert.
