WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lady Cardinals fall short to #1 ranked Umpqua

The North Idaho College women’s basketball team fell just short of undefeated and #1 ranked Umpqua Community College for the second time this season.  The Lady Cardinals lost 74-70 on Saturday, December 30 following a previous 85-80 loss on December 3.  No other team has come closer to beating the top picked team in the conference than the fifth ranked NIC.  Sophomore Whitney Meier was a catalyst for the Lady Cardinals on both offense and defense scoring a game high 22 points.  Freshman Kelsey Auer followed with 13 points and freshman Sydney Hovde added 11 points and 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Ronnie Harris led NIC in both assists and steals with 4 each.

The Lady Cardinals finished the preseason with a 9-3 overall record and begin NWAC Eastern Division play on Saturday, January 6 at Yakima College.  Tip-off is at 2:00 PM and is followed by the men’s game at 4:00 PM.  Both games will be webcast at  Follow @NICWBBALL on Twitter for continuous coverage of the North Idaho College women’s basketball team.
