MEN’S BASKETBALL: Defense keys Cardinals victory


North Idaho College used a swarming zone defense and a huge rebounding advantage to crush San Jose City College 67-42 in the final game of the San Jose City College Classic Saturday night. The Cards held the host Jaguars to just 21 points in each half in snapping their three-game losing streak.

Freshman Jarod Greene led three Cardinals in double figures with 14 points and 9 rebounds while freshmen RayQuan Evans added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Ian McLaughlin had another fine night off the bench as the freshman tossed in 12 points and added 9 rebounds. In all, North Idaho College out rebounded San Jose 50-21.

“We really concentrated on our defensive pressure tonight,” said Head Coach Corey Symonds. “Holding a team to just 21 points in each half while dominating the boards was pretty impressive.”

The Cardinals return home for the 3-day Holiday Inn Express NWAC Crossover Tournament December 17.
