WRESTLING: NIC Wrestling Caps-Off Long Home Stretch with 9 Cards Placing at the Spokane Open


The NIC Wrestling Team grinded through a long stretch of dual meets and capped things off with a strong showing at the Spokane Open Wrestling Tournament. Action for the Cards began on Friday Evening, 11/17, when the Cardinals faced conference foe, Clackamas College. Esco Walker started the Cardinals off right with a victory over returning NJCAA National Finalist, David Campbell by a Decision of 5-4. Three other Cards walked away with victories on the evening at 149, 165 and 285, with Damian Trujillo winning by Fall to end the dual. Ultimately, the Cardinals lost the Dual 17-24 after giving up bonus point victories in three of the bouts.


Bouncing back the following day, the Cardinals showed grit with back-to-back victories against conference opponents Umpqua and Highline, winning 50-3 and 40-9, respectively. The NIC Wrestlers carried this momentum into Sunday’s Spokane Open Tournament, placing 3rd behind only Simon Fraser (Division II) and Montana State University – Northern (NAIA). The Cardinals will resume action following Thanksgiving Break in Las Vegas, Nevada with Duals against Western Wyoming and UNLV, followed by the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Duals will take place 11/30 and tournament action will begin 12/1.
