NWAC volleyball playoffs begin, Cardinals honored


The NWAC Region Championship tournament begins on Thursday, November 16, at the Tacoma Convention Center, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 19.

NIC Volleyball enters the tournament as the East Region Champion and the East No. 1 seed after winning the division with a 15-1 record (31-6 overall). The Cardinals are the No. 2 ranked team in the NWAC Final Poll, released on November 14. South Region Champion Chemeketa Community College is ranked No. 1 and Linn-Benton CC is third. The Cardinals face North Region No. 4 seed Shoreline CC at 4:30 p.m. on Court 1 on Thursday. If the Cardinals win they face the winner of Linn-Benton/ Lower Columbia at 12:30 p.m. on Court 2 on Friday. The complete tournament bracket is on the NIC athletics website. 

The NWAC released the All Region teams on Tuesday and several Cardinals were honored. Head Coach Kelsey Stanley was selected as the East Region Coach of the Year. Freshman Kayla Neumann (Sandpoint HS) was selected as the East Region Player of the Year. Three other Cardinals were selected to the All-Region team: sophomore Halle Hess (Shelley, ID) - 1st Team; sophomore Rachel Leshikar (Kennewick, WA)- 2nd Team; and freshman Hailee Etter (Spokane)- 2nd Team.
