VOLLEYBALL: Cardinal Clinch East Region #1 Seed

The top ranked NIC Cardinals defeated #3 ranked Columbia Basin College to clinch the #1 seed for the East Region in the upcoming NWAC Championship tournament. In the home finale for the Cardinals, both CBC and NIC came in with only one conference defeat, and the East Region title on the line. The Cardinals defeated the Hawks on their home court 3-1, in their only road conference game in the first half of conference play on October 6. The Hawks were determined to return the favor on the Cards home court, jumping out to an 8-2 lead to start the first game. The Cards seemed to be unfazed by their typical slow start, and after a time-out the Cards righted the ship and won game 1 easily, 25-16. The Cards continued the momentum into game 2, winning handily 25-12. However, after the intermission, CBC was the aggressor from the start and dominated the speed of play, building up to a seemingly insurmountable 24-19 advantage. With no room for error, the Cards mounted a spirited comeback in front of the home crowd and held the Hawks scoreless for the remainder of the contest, to win 26-24 to complete the sweep.

With the win, the Cards advanced to 14-1 in conference play, while CBC dropped to 13-2. The Cards earned the #1 seed in the NWAC East Region after taking the season series from the Hawks. The Cards only need to defeat Wenatchee Valley on the road, in the regular season finale on November 8, to win their second straight East Region title.

The NWAC Region Championship tournament will be held in Tacoma, WA at the Downtown Convention Center on Nov 16-19. Check out the Cardinal website for the tournament brackets and complete tournament coverage at
