WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cardinals dominate in win over Knights

While the score at halftime was 0-0, it was a dominate performance by the North Idaho Cardinals in their 4-1 win over the Wenatchee Valley Knights on Eisenwinter Field. In the first half the Cardinals out shot the Knights 9-1 and though Aunika Capps hit the left post and Abby Roberts hit the crossbar, there were no goals scored.

The second half was much different with Chelsea Love starting the scoring for NIC. Ashley Camacho made a dash with the ball up the left flank speeding by multiple Wenatchee players and crossed the ball in front of the goal. The ball got past the Knight goalie and Love shot it into goal. "Chelsea has a knack for finding the right spot to score goals and this ability has gotten us started in several games," commented Head Coach Dan Hogan. About 8 minutes later Zoe Lee picked up a loose ball about 5 yards above the penalty, took a touch to her right and drove a shot over the WVC keeper. Wenatchee scored when their best attacker, Madeline Kaiser, picked up the ball between two NIC backs and shot the ball into the left side netting. Linnea Pretzer got back in the scoring column for the Cardinals. Netting her first goal of the game 73 minutes in, when Natalie Goetz sent in a low cross from the right side of the field and Pretzer tucked it between the near post and the goalie. Pretzer finished off the scoring by receiving a pass from Love in the 83rd minute and drilled it home.

"Although we gave up one goal, the defense of Kinzie Hunter in goal, Brooklyn Ranking, Zhu Parker, Nora Kennedy, and Ashley Camacho limited the Knights to only 4 shots the entire game," stated Hogan.

The Cardinals are now 8-2-0 in the East Region and 10-4-0 overall. They'll face off against Yakima Valley CC in Yakima on Friday at 12 noon.
