VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals Sweep Wenatchee Valley

The #2 ranked Lady Cards were prime for a letdown after defeating #3 Columbia Basin Friday evening on the road in the battle for first. Instead the Cards shook off another slow start to defeat Wenatchee Valley in straight sets to remain undefeated in NWAC play on Saturday afternoon at Christianson Gym. Defensive specialist Rachel Leshikar was the catalyst for the Cardinals, with 24 digs, many of the spectacular variety, to spark the victory. The Cards started off slow, but still won game one, 25-17. Fatigue appeared to be a factor in game two, with the Cards winning a methodical 25-23 set, with unforced errors periodically surfacing. The Lady Cards won't return to Christianson Gym for nearly 4 weeks so they wanted to leave the fans with memories of a strong performance in game 3. Accordingly, the Cards came out totally focused and put the Knights away in short order, 25-10. Halle Hess and Hailee Etter helped lead the way for the Cards on the day. Wenatchee Valley fell to fifth place in the NWAC East with the loss (3-5, 11-10 overall).

The second round of conference play gets underway on Wednesday with the Cards (8-0 NWAC East, 18-5 overall) in Moses Lake against Big Bend CC. Seven of the next 8 league games are on the road, in addition to the NWAC Crossover tournament at Big Bend. The Cards return to Christianson Gym on November 3 against Columbia Basin for the home finale.
