VOLLEYBALL: Lady Cards Knock Off Walla Walla

The Lady Cardinals Volleyball team knocked off defending East Region co-champion Walla Walla CC on Friday evening at Christianson Gym to remain undefeated in NWAC  play. The Cards shared the East Region title with WWCC last season. The Cardinals swept the match, 3-0, to earn their first win against WWCC in conference play since joining the NWAC. With the win the Cardinals moved to 5-0, and 14-2 overall. Walla Walla falls to 2-3 in NWAC play. Despite the sweep, all three games were close. For the first time in 3 matches the Cards won the first game, 25-23. The Cards led 21-17 in the opener before WWCC mounted a comeback to tie the game at 23-23. The dominant Cardinal play at the net proved to be the difference, as the Cards had two key blocks to win 25-23. The Cardinals won 25-22, and 25-22 to drop the Warriors (2-3 NWAC, 17-13) to 4th place in the NWAC East. Columbia Basin College (7-0 NWAC, 15-4 overall) also won on Friday to remain the only other undefeated team in conference with the Cards.

The Lady Cardinals face rival Community Colleges of Spokane (4-1 NWAC, 21-4) on Wednesday, October 4, as the third part of the NIC Homecoming triple-header. Women's Soccer (2:00pm) and Men's Soccer (4:15pm) also play Spokane at Eisenwinter Field on October 4 to kick off the homecoming festivities. The NIC Booster Club will host a homecoming cook-off at 3:30pm at the soccer field, with the first 200 Cardinal fans receiving a Cardinals tee-shirt, sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene Casino.
