WOMEN'S SOCCER: NIC picks up a win

NIC traveled to Pasco, Wash. to face the Columbia Basin College Hawks. The Cardinals won the game 2-0, even though it was a struggle for the first 60 minutes of the game. NIC started the game very “flat” not finding any rhythm in the first half. The second half saw the Cardinals’ energy pick up and in the 57th minute Zoe Lee broke through the back line of the Hawks and was fouled by CBC’s goalkeeper as Lee made a move to get past her. Marisol Guerrero stepped up and converted the penalty kick.

NIC’s second goal was started by Guerrero attacking along the top of the penalty are from the left side and playing a ball into Linnea Pretzer in the center. Pretzer had to “ride” through a tackle and then slotted the shot into the right side of the goal.

The Cardinals are 3-1 in conference play and 5-3 overall. Next up is the rescheduled trip to Blue Mountain and Treasure Valley on Friday and Saturday (9/29 & 9/30). This change has forced us to move the Spokane game originally scheduled for 9/30 to Wednesday, 10/4.

The game with CCS is part of the Cardinal Homecoming tripleheader, with both soccer teams playing Spokane at 2:00 and 4:15 on October 4, and volleyball playing Spokane at 6:00pm. The first 150 spectators to the volleyball and soccer games will receive a Cardinals t-shirt, sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene Casino and Resort hotel. The Homecoming festivities will begin with a cookout for Cardinal fans at the Soccer match, beginning at 2:00pm on Eisenwinter Field.
