VOLLEYBALL: NIC opens season in Eugene, Ore. at NWAC Friendlies


The Cardinal volleyball team opened their 2017 season in Eugene, Oregon at the NWAC Friendlies Tournament with a record of 4-2. Their first match was against Clark College losing 23-25, 22-25. They also lost the second match againstĀ  Lower Columbia Community College 22-25, 22-25. In the third match against Bellevue Community College the Cardinals came back to win sets 2 and 3, 23-25, 25-15, 17-15. The win propelled them on to win their last 3 matches as well: Linn Benton Community College 26-24, 25-19; Shoreline Community College 25-20, 25-19; Highline Community College 22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-8.

Hailee Etter with 39 kills and Halle Hess with 37 kills were the team's kill leaders. Both did an outstanding job leading the team when we where needing that extra push. Rachel Leshikar led the team in digs with 55 and Haylee Templeton led the team in assists. Cassidy Jackson and Hailee Etter both finished the weekend with the most blocks bringing in 12 each. "Overall, it was a great weekend for us. We improved with every game and became more comfortable with one another an ourselves. We still have a longĀ road ahead of us and a lot to work on but so many positive plays made this weekend makes me believe we truly have something special with this group," said Head Coach Kelsey Stanley.
