CHEERLEADING: USA Collegiate National Champions

The cheerleaders just placed first at the  USA Collegiate Championship. It was in Disneyland over the weekend. Over 20 colleges gathered for the event. University of Kentucky, Boise State, and San Diego State are a few of the bigger schools that were there.

The squad is composed of 3 guys and 12 girls. This put them in small co-ed, 2 year college division. There were 5 teams in their division, including College of Southern Idaho. The top two teams from Saturday's competition competed again on Sunday for the championship. NIC and Ventura College were those teams. NIC took first!

The championship was not easily achieved. The cheerleaders have been busy all year! They cheer volleyball, men's basketball, and women's basketball, on top of practicing since August for USA.  Fundraising  was also a big obstacle for them. They did  car washes in the summer, hosted some stunting clinics, sold NIC Athletic calendars, and hosted their annual cheer competition in January.

All the cheering, fundraising, and practicing paid off in Disneyland. Next year they plan to do it all over again, and get the same results!
