Softball Wins 2 on Day 1 of NWAC Tournament

The NIC Lady Cardinals advanced to the semi-finals of the NWAC Softball Region Championship at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex on Friday, May 19. The #11 seeded Cardinals knocked off #6 seed Bellevue College 4-0 in game one behind great pitching and stellar defense. Freshman Kayla Moore pitched a complete game shutout and the Cardinal defense turned 4 double-plays to thwart every Bellevue offensive threat.

In the quarterfinals the Cardinals knocked off East Region Champion Wenatchee Valley Community College, 7-2. Freshman Kennedy Anderson got the Cards on the board with a first inning home run, and the Cards had timely hits to go up 7-0 after 3 innings. Moore had another sensational pitching performance, holding the Knights hitless thru 5 innings to eliminate any idea of a repeat high scoring contest as in previous season matchups. The Cards avenged two losses, 11-8 and 9-8, in the final weekend of the regular season.

With the wins the Cards advance to face #7 seed Walla Walla CC in the NWAC semifinals on Saturday at 12:30. The Cards are the lowest seed remaining in the winners bracket, with #1 seed Douglas College facing #4 seed Clackamas in the other semi-final.

The double elimination contest runs thru Monday, with the championship game on May 22 at 11:00am. Check out the NWAC website at for the complete tournament bracket.
