Softball finishes 3rd in the NWAC East Region Conference


It was Sophomore Day on Saturday as NIC hosted the Yaks from Yakima Valley Community College. It was a great turnout at Memorial Field as the softball team honored their five sophomores. In game one of the series, sophomore Nikki Miller went 2-3 at the plate with 3 RBI’s. Freshman Kayla Curtan went 3-3 on the day to help the Cards beat the Yaks in five innings with a score of 8-0.  In game two, the Cardinals jumped ahead quickly scoring early in the game. Sophomore Emily Aspden went 2-3 at the plate as well as sophomore, and Coeur d'Alene High School alumni Ana Raynor. Freshman Kennedy Anderson went 3-4 at the plate with 3 RBI’s to help with the 12-4 victory. 

On Sunday, due to weather conditions, NIC hosted the Knights of Wenatchee Valley Community College at Post Falls High School. The Knights earned the sweep with a 11-6 victory in game one, and a 9-8 victory in game two. 

NIC finished third in the East with a 20-12 conference finish, and currently 29-15 overall. NIC will play Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:00am in the NWAC Championships at Dwight Merkle Sports Complex in Spokane Washington.  Check out the complete bracket at
