Men's Golf Wins NWAC Regular Season Title

Cardinal Men win 2016-2017 NWAC League Title finishing Tied for first at the Spokane Bigfoot Invitational; Gilbert Wins Again

The fourth and final NWAC League Match wrapped up Sunday at the Spokane Bigfoot Invitational held at Liberty Lake GC and Meadowwood GC in Liberty Lake, WA.  It was an exciting finish as the men were 8 shots back of Bellevue College with two holes to play and ended up bringing it back to tie Bellevue at the end of regulation play. Both teams finished with two day team scores of 580. The NWAC tie breaker format is a sudden death playoff with the low four players of that day playing for combined score.  On the first playoff hole Evan Galando of Bellevue College rolled in a 15 foot birdie putt to give Bellevue College a team score of one under where the Cardinals finished the hole even par. Finishing runner up was good enough to give the Cardinals enough points to clinch the 2016-2017 Northwest Athletic Conference League title.

Freshman Ross Gilbert was again the standout individual for the Cardinals shooting 66-68 (134) to win by 6 strokes. "I'm really pleased and impressed with how Ross is hitting the ball right now." Coach Russell Grove said.  "I feel he's just getting better and better each round and it was great to see him get off to a solid start this weekend putting up 5 birdies in the first 9 holes."  Both Brady and Preston Nelson also had top 10 finishes with 147 totals.

The men take a week off before heading to Bandon Dunes for the Southwest Oregon Invitational, May 14-15.
