NWAC Men's Basketball Playoff Brackets Set


The Northwest Athletic Conference released the playoff brackets for the 2017 men and women's single elimination championship basketball tournament on Sunday, March 5, 2017. The #1 ranked NIC Men's Basketball team received the final draw in the selection pairing for the top seeds and will open on Thursday, March 9 at 10:00 A.M. against Tacoma Community College. The playoff times for top seeds are determined by random draw. The NIC Lady Cardinals did not qualify for the NWAC playoffs, finishing in 6th place in the NWAC East.

The Tacoma Titans, the #4 Seed from the NWAC West Region, finished 8-6 in conference, and 15-13 overall, but enter the playoffs on a 3 game losing streak. The NIC-TCC winner will face either Peninsula CC or Portland CC on Friday, March 10 at 2:00P.M.

All games will be played at Everett Community College, with the men's first and second rounds on March 9-10, and the semi-finals and finals the following weekend on March 17-18, also at Everett CC. See the complete bracket and times on the NWAC Championship bracket icon on the NIC website.

The Cardinals won the East Region title in their first year in the NWAC, at 13-3 and 25-4 overall. The Cards are led in scoring by freshman Markus Golder at 19ppg on 56% shooting. Sophomore PG Sam Dowd leads the NWAC in assists at 7 per game and averages 18 points, Freshman Niko Bevens leads the conference in 3 point field goal percentage, making 110 of 221 attempts to average 14 points per game. Sophomore forward Ziggy Satterthwaite leads the Cards in rebounding at 8 per contest while scoring at 14 points a game.
