MEN'S BASKETBALL: NIC beats Big Bend- Showdown vs Spokane Next
The #3 ranked Cardinals won their 5th road game in a row beating Big Bend CC convincingly 101-82 Wednesday evening in Moses Lake, WA. At the break, the Cardinals were up only up 50-46, despite shooting 54.5% from the field. Sam Dowd had yet another amazing outing, recording a double-double with 17 points, 12 assists. and 4 rebounds, with only 1 turnover in 40 minutes The sophomore shot a solid 63% from the field, making 5 of 8 attempts. Markus Golder also reeled in a double-double leading the way with 23 points and he attacked the glass, snagging 10 boards. NIC stepped up their defensive game in the second half by limiting Big Bend to only 29% from the field. Overall the Cards were more proficient from the field making 58% of their shots while holding their opponent to 36%. The Cardinals had a balanced attack with 6 players in double figures. Niko Bevens tallied 19 points off the bench, including 5-8 from 3 point range. The entire starting lineup contributed with Ziggy Satterthwaite (14 points), Adam Gotelli (14 points) and Jalen Burkett (11 points) all hitting double figures.
With the route of Big Bend, NIC climbed to a tie in the standings while setting up an important matchup against NWAC defending champion Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday, February 18th at 4:00 pm, at Christianson Gymnasium. The Sasquatch defeated the Cardinals 101-94 on their homecourt in January, and come in on an 8 game win streak. This matchup marks the first game of four consecutive games at home.
