Wrestling Knocks off Simon Fraser on Soph Night

01/27/2017

The NJCAA 7th ranked Cardinals finished off the regular season on Sophomore Night with a 27-19 win over NCAA Division II Simon Fraser of British Columbia, Canada, Thursday at Christianson Gym.  NIC was without a few key starters and had to move a few guys around in the lineup but a key pin by Trey Long at 125 lbs and a gutsy win by freshman Wyatt Butler at 165lbs helped the Cardinals finish of the regular season with a win.  The Cards entered the final match of the evening clinging to a narrow 22-19 lead, but got a victory at 157 lbs by Brent Evans to clinch the win.

NIC is now off until the  NJCAA West District tournament, hosted by Southwestern Oregon CC in Coos Bay, Ore on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The district tournament determines the qualifiers for the NJCAA National tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 24-25, 2017.
